CMAC Group has unveiled a comprehensive UK sustainability strategy that signals a bold commitment to environmental responsibility.
Recognising the critical importance of sustainable practices for the long-term well-being of the planet and the success of its business and stakeholders, CMAC has pledged to integrate sustainability into every facet of its operations.
Carbon neutrality by the end of 2023
CMAC's primary objective is the reduction of its carbon footprint, targeting carbon neutrality in scopes 1 & 2 by the close of 2023. This encompasses a focused approach to reduce emissions directly generated by the company and overall energy consumption. The company commits to rigorous targets, and pledges to monitor and report progress regularly, ensuring accountability and transparency.
Net Zero by 2045
CMAC is striving to achieve Net Zero by 2045, ahead of the 2050 UK target, aligning with the anticipated electric and alternative fuel vehicles on the roads by this time. The company will actively encourage its supply chain to transition to green vehicles, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
To achieve this goal, CMAC acknowledges the impact of government policies, including the upcoming ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035 and the implementation of Low Emission Zones in cities across the UK. These policies are expected to drive a natural uptake of low-emission vehicles within the taxi industry, contributing significantly to the reduction of Scope 3 emissions.
To ensure the achievement of its Net Zero target, CMAC has outlined a proactive timeline with strategic steps and initiatives that CMAC will undertake, actively shaping a sustainable future and mitigating its environmental impact.
Energy efficiency
CMAC is committed to reducing energy consumption through the implementation of energy-efficient practices across all sites and offices. In 2022, CMAC was awarded the ISO 14001 certification, an international standard recognising the company’s commitment to environmental management.
Supply chain sustainability
The company actively engages with suppliers to drive sustainable innovation and reduce emissions, with a clear trajectory towards achieving Net Zero. This collaborative effort ensures that sustainability is embedded throughout the supply chain, contributing to broader industry efforts to address environmental challenges.
Stakeholder collaboration
Recognising the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, including clients, communities, and suppliers, CMAC is engaging in partnerships, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and industry forums. These collaborations are integral to addressing sustainability challenges and driving meaningful change.
Engagement and education
Acknowledging sustainability as a collective effort, the company is committed to providing training and awareness programs to empower its workforce. CMAC’s internal 'Green Team,' led by the Head of Sustainability, drives this commitment to sustainability throughout the organisation.
Neil Micklethwaite, COO at CMAC Group says:
